Before Your Laser Hair Removal Appointment:

2–4 Weeks Before Treatment

  1. Avoid sun exposure and tanning (natural or tanning beds). Laser cannot be performed on recently tanned skin.
  2. Stop waxing, plucking, epilating, or using depilatory creams – only shaving is allowed.
  3. Avoid self-tanning products on the treatment area.

1 Week Before Treatment

  1. Discontinue retinoids, glycolic/salicylic acids, and exfoliating products in the treatment area.
  2. Avoid active skin treatments (like chemical peels or microdermabrasion) on the area to be treated.
  3. Avoid antibiotics if possible; let your provider know if you’re taking any, especially photosensitive medications.

24 Hours Before Treatment

  1. Shave the area thoroughly — ideally 12–24 hours before your appointment. Skin should be free of stubble but not irritated.
  2. Avoid caffeine and alcohol — these can make your skin more sensitive.

On the Day of Your Appointment

  1. Arrive with clean, dry skin – no lotion, makeup, deodorant, oils, perfumes, or creams on the treatment area.
  2. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated.
  3. Bring a list of medications you’re currently taking.
  4. Let your technician know if:
    1. You’re pregnant or breastfeeding.
    2. You’ve had recent sun exposure.
    3. You’ve used any skincare products or medications that could affect treatment.
