Before Your Laser Hair Removal Appointment:
2–4 Weeks Before Treatment
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning (natural or tanning beds). Laser cannot be performed on recently tanned skin.
- Stop waxing, plucking, epilating, or using depilatory creams – only shaving is allowed.
- Avoid self-tanning products on the treatment area.
1 Week Before Treatment
- Discontinue retinoids, glycolic/salicylic acids, and exfoliating products in the treatment area.
- Avoid active skin treatments (like chemical peels or microdermabrasion) on the area to be treated.
- Avoid antibiotics if possible; let your provider know if you’re taking any, especially photosensitive medications.
24 Hours Before Treatment
- Shave the area thoroughly — ideally 12–24 hours before your appointment. Skin should be free of stubble but not irritated.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol — these can make your skin more sensitive.
On the Day of Your Appointment
- Arrive with clean, dry skin – no lotion, makeup, deodorant, oils, perfumes, or creams on the treatment area.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated.
- Bring a list of medications you’re currently taking.
- Let your technician know if:
- You’re pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You’ve had recent sun exposure.
- You’ve used any skincare products or medications that could affect treatment.
